Poached Pear in Spiced Red Wine

April 4, 2010

Just another simple dessert for dinner parties!

  1. Conference Pears (peeled and scoped out the base and seeds from the bottom, leave the stalk)
  2. Red Wine (enough to cover the pears)
  3. Orange peel (approximate 5cm long by 2cm wide )
  4. Cinnamon Stick
  5. Few cloves (whole)
  6. 2-3 tbs sugar

Put all ingredients in a bowl and soak the pears over night.

Once ready, poach the pear under low heat for around 5  mins (I think the pears should not be too soft, otherwise it losts the texture!). Lift the pears and set aside to cool down. Discard the rest of the ingredients (keep the wine of course!!)

Under medium heat, cook the sauce until slightly thicken, set aside to be used later.

For this recipe, I thought I will try it with some home-made green tea ice cream. I think it is an interesting combination; colours and taste wise! (Vanilla Ice cream will be good enough, if you don’t have green tea ice cream!)

Ps: wait for my green tea ice cream recipe in few days time!
